How is the conscience hurt? 1) Not taking up the responsibility of “knowing” - when a person knows about the evil he shouldn’t do, but still do; or when he knows about the good he should but he does not do it, his conscience will gradually be rebuked. Actually, to “know” is a big responsibility. When a person knows the truth, he is obliged to submit to it. 2) Ignore or deceive the voice of conscience - when a person insist on not listening to the rebuke of the conscience, or rationalise his own mistakes, the conscience will gradually be more hurt. The conscience will start to be quiet, and stop giving us voices. Unknowingly, this silence will turn into the voice of judgement and fear. 3) Distorting the intrinsic function of the conscience - after the fall, the function of the conscience is to enable people to know their sins, so that they can be brought before God’s salvation. However, if man creates religion and morality because of the rebuke of conscience, he is drifting further from God. Or according to the Bible: he is following the truth of the demons.
